CASCAR Castrol Super Series - National #1 - Grid set for Mopar Parts 300

8 August 1999

Shirley wins Final Qualifiers' race - Grid set for Sunday's Mopar Parts 300

CALGARY, AB - The final grid positions for Sunday's Mopar Parts 300 CASCAR
Castrol Super Series National Championship event at Calgary's Race City
Motorsport Park were determined on Saturday evening. The Final Qualifiers'
heat race - for those not already in the Sunday's starting field - was won
by Saskatoon's Dan Shirley, the polesitter for this event the past two
years. The driver of the NTN Bearings Chevrolet Monte Carlo had trouble
with his car's ignition system in his 100 lap qualifying race on Friday
evening, but clearly had things back in order on Saturday as he held off
Ancaster, ON driver Neil Fair and Edmonton's Fred DelPero to take the win.
A total of 31 drivers will take part in tomorrow's Mopar Parts 300, which
will feature Dodge drivers Al Turner and DJ Kennington on the front row
following their qualifying runs on Friday night.
The pre-race autograph session starts Sunday morning at 11:15 on the front
stretch of Race City's half-mile oval, and the green flag is set to fly for
the first National event of the CASCAR season at 1:00 p.m.
