Jaguar Appoints Ian Callum as Director of Styling
MAHWAH, N.J., Aug. 5 -- Jaguar today announces the
appointment of Ian Callum as Director of Styling. Acknowledged as one of the
leading car stylists of his generation, Callum will be responsible for all
future Jaguar styling programs. He also will continue to be responsible for
the design of all current and future models for Aston Martin.
"We were seeking a stylist who would be able to continue Geoff Lawson's
approach to our styling heritage," said Jaguar's Managing Director Jonathan
Browning." Ian has demonstrated, particularly through his work for Aston
Martin, that he has a great ability to blend traditional styling values with
leading-edge vehicle technologies to meet the requirements of today's premium
vehicle customer. He is a natural successor to Geoff and will make a
significant contribution to Jaguar's future products."
For the past eight years, Callum has been Chief Designer and General
Manager of TWR Design. During this period, he was responsible for styling the
Aston Martin DB7 -- now established as the most successful Aston Martin of all
time.
His brief for the DB7 was to carry through the design theme of Sir David
Brown's world famous DB series while taking full advantage of modern
materials, components and manufacturing techniques. Callum also designed the
recently announced V12-powered DB7 Vantage and Aston Martin's Project Vantage
concept car.
He also has been responsible for a wide range of styling programs for
other TWR clients, including Volvo and Mazda. He was awarded the Jim Clark
Memorial Award in 1995 in recognition of his styling work on the Aston Martin
DB7.
Callum started his design career at Ford and worked in Ford design studios
in Britain, the United States, Germany, Japan and Australia. He then was
appointed Design Manager responsible for the Ghia Design Studio in Turin and
initiated the Ghia Zig and Zag show car concepts.
"I feel privileged to be joining Jaguar," said Callum. "The company has
one of the most enviable styling traditions in the automotive industry and
this is certainly reflected in the latest cars such as S-TYPE. It is an
exciting time to be joining Jaguar, and I look forward to leading a very
talented styling team and contributing to the company's expansion plans."
Born in Dumfries, Scotland, Callum studied at Lanchester Polytechnic's
School of Transportation Design in Coventry, Aberdeen Art College and the
Glasgow School of Art, where he graduated with a degree in Industrial Design.
This was followed by a two year, post-graduate course in Automobile Design at
the Royal College of Art, where he graduated with a Master's Degree in
Industrial Design. He joined Ford after graduating from the RCA.
Callum is 45 years of age, is married and has two sons, Fraser (13) and
Alastair (10). He lives in Oxfordshire, England.
