Best-Ever July Sales Reported by Toyota's Chicago Region
    CHICAGO, Aug. 5 -- Toyota's Chicago Region posted best-ever
July car sales of 7,406, a 12 percent increase over July 1998 when 6,622 were
sold.  Combined car and truck sales for the month were 8,089, a 16 percent
increase over last year's 7,001 total.
    "Toyota's new entry into the full-size truck market, the Tundra, built in
Gibson County, Ind., has contributed to total truck sales of 683 units, almost
double last year's 379 total," said Dave Camden, general manager of the
Chicago Region.  "Great values, combined with Toyota quality, stable interest
rates, and a strong economy, have enabled our dealers to continue their record
selling pace."
    The Kentucky-built Sienna and Camry, had sales increases of 28 percent and
22 percent, respectively, over July 1998.  Toyota's 4Runner SUV, was up
30 percent.
    The Toyota Chicago Region includes 114 dealers in Illinois, Indiana,
Minnesota and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
