BMW Selects iMAN from Unigraphics Solutions as its New PDM Tool
Integration Flexibility and the Web-Centric iMAN Portal
Are Cited as Key Success Factors

ST. LOUIS, Aug. 5 -- Unigraphics Solutions Inc.
today announced that BMW AG, in Munich, Germany has selected iMAN to become
its new product data management (PDM) solution of choice. The decision was
made after a highly sophisticated and detailed analysis that included a
performance benchmark focused on the evaluation of the PDM system's
architecture, as well as the vendor's ability to integrate its system with
BMW's existing software applications.
In order to begin the first phase of its PDM implementation, BMW has
placed an initial order for iMAN software licenses and training along with
Unigraphics Solutions consulting services. During this strategic first phase
of implementation, BMW will use iMAN in selected engineering departments such
as electric/electronic, vehicle analysis and design. Upon successful
completion of phase one, the company intends to implement iMAN on a corporate
level.
"BMW selected iMAN for several reasons including its modern,
state-of-the-art architecture, superior functionality, excellent system
performance, high reliability and integration flexibility," says Dietmar
Trippner, manager of CAx/PDM applications for BMW. "Equally important,
however, is the highly competent UGS people who supported our evaluation
process.
"In addition, iMAN's robust Web functionality using the iMAN Portal, was a
critical factor for BMW's evaluation team," adds Mr. Trippner. "The company
runs a highly decentralized organization and expects approximately 70 percent
of this organization to remotely access the information managed by iMAN. The
iMAN Portal gives us the ability to make the right information available to
the right people at all times and will be a big benefit to BMW."
"We are extremely pleased to welcome BMW as another key player in the
automotive industry who has selected iMAN as its PDM system of choice," says
Georg Wessels, Unigraphics Solutions country manager, Germany. "I am
particularly delighted because this decision was made completely independent
of UGS' CAD/CAM products, further validating iMAN's superior ability to
integrate with the customers' existing applications."
