Unique Mobility Alternator Technology Utilized in First Eleven Hybrid Electric Ground Vehicles for Use by Air Force and Navy AirGOLDEN, Colo., Aug. 4 -- Unique Mobility, Inc. (Amex: UQM), a leading developer and manufacturer of high efficiency electric motors, gear assemblies and electronic assemblies, announced today that its proprietary alternator and alternator controller are integral components in the first eleven Hybrid Electric Vehicles built and delivered by Transportation Design & Manufacturing, Livonia, MI, for the U.S. Government's Alternative Vehicle System Program Office. "These HEV's -- seven vans and four shuttle buses -- are being deployed at various Air Force and Naval Air stations, and are the vanguard of what we believe will be a growing international market for such vehicles, and we are pleased to be part of the TDM team," according to Ray A. Geddes, Unique's Chairman and CEO. Mr. Geddes noted that TDM's President, Bill Roberts, characterized TDM's assignment from the government as a program "to use commercially available components and then build HEV's to be complete 'stand alone' vehicles requiring no additional external equipment to operate and maintain." "These vehicles," Mr. Roberts said, "can be operated anywhere in the world without the need for costly recharging or refueling infrastructure." "This government project, using Ford Motor Company E-350 chassis, demonstrates that hybrid electric vehicle technology is commercially viable today. Unique Mobility, Inc. of Golden, Colorado played a key role with its alternator and alternator controller," Mr. Roberts said. Operating the hybrid system, the 75kw continuous output UQM(R) alternator (motor/generator), designed for reduced electromagnetic interference (EMI), runs at speeds controlled to achieve maximum engine efficiency and reduced emissions. Said Mr. Geddes, "We believe that world requirements for economically viable, clean air power solutions are at last propelling the introduction of new products which creatively and technically address these problems. Unique's proprietary alternator, just one of our portfolio products, is in the forefront of such technology, and should benefit not only the broad user-public, but the shareholders who have supported our efforts in this important task during our development stage." Unique Mobility, Inc., is a leading developer and manufacturer of power dense, high efficiency motors, gear assemblies and electronic assemblies for the aerospace, telecommunications, automotive, medical and industrial markets. The Company's headquarters and engineering and product development center is located in Golden, Colorado.
