Mitsubishi Motors' July Sales Up 51 Percent
Company's Best July Sales in its History; Galant Sales Up 162 Percent

CYPRESS, Calif., Aug. 3 -- Mitsubishi Motors had its
best-ever July in the U.S., with sales up 51 percent over the prior year:

-- Galant sales totaled 8,071 units, a 162 percent increase over the
prior year and the best sales month since the mid-size sedan was
redesigned last year; for the year, Galant sales are up
          54 percent

-- Eclipse sales totaled 6,202 units, a 4 percent increase over the
prior year; the company continues an orderly "sell-down" of current
inventory in preparation for a strong September launch of the
          all-new 2000 Eclipse sports coupe

-- Mitsubishi Motors' sport utility vehicle sales remain strong, with
sales of its Montero Sport mid-size SUV up 31 percent and Montero
luxury SUV up 39 percent over the prior year

-- Sales for all other Mitsubishi Motors' models were up in July,
including Diamante (170 percent); Mirage (39 percent); and 3000GT
          (10 percent)

July sales for Mitsubishi Motors in the U.S. totaled 23,342, an increase
of 51 percent over the prior year; year-to-date sales reached 133,451, an
increase of 19 percent over 1998.
"The combination of exciting new products and a coordinated marketing
message continues to fuel Mitsubishi Motors' growth in the U.S.," said Pierre
Gagnon, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Mitsubishi
Motor Sales of America, Inc. (MMSA.) "Buyers appreciate Galant as an
alternative to look-alike, drive-alike sedans, bringing about its huge sales
growth over the prior year. Likewise, our all-new, 2000 Eclipse is sure to
revitalize the sports coupe market, and the restyled and re-engineered Montero
Sport will be more competitive than ever in one of the hottest automotive
segments."
The increase in Galant sales was announced just as the September, 1999
issue of Car and Driver magazine ranked Galant number one in a test of eight
$20,000 mid-size sedans, including Toyota Camry and Honda Accord.
Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. was established in 1982 by
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, Tokyo, and markets a full line of vehicles,
including coupes, convertibles, sedans and sport utility vehicles.
