Lexus Reports Best-Ever July Sales; Year-to-Date Sales Up 28.7 PercentTORRANCE, Calif., Aug. 3 -- Lexus posted sales of 17,094 units for a best-ever July and an increase of 16.4 percent over 1998. Year-to-date sales of 106,923 are up 28.7 percent from last year. Passenger car sales increased 6.6 percent from last July with the ES 300 near luxury sedan leading the way with 4,209 units sold, up 4.9 percent from 1998. The LS 400 premium luxury sedan had its best month this year with sales of 1,860, an 8.8 percent increase over the same period last year. The GS 300 high-performance luxury sedan also had its best month of the year with 2,171 units sold, a 25.2 percent increase from 1998. The GS 400 posted sales of 606, while the SC 300 and 400 luxury sport coupes had sales of 251. Lexus sport utility vehicle (SUV) sales remained strong with RX 300 mid- size luxury SUV results of 6,687 units, up 38.4 percent from last year. The LX 470 premium luxury SUV showed consistent sales of 1,310, down a slight 0.7 percent from a year ago. "As the No. 1 luxury nameplate through the first half of 1999, we're pleased sales remain strong," said Bryan Bergsteinsson, Lexus group vice president and general manager. "As evident with our recent honors from J.D. Power and Associates for outstanding quality, dependability and customer satisfaction, we're still committed to providing top-notch products and unmatched customer care."
