Hayes Lemmerz Increases Equity Stake in Aluminum Wheel Plant in Thailand

    NORTHVILLE, Mich., Aug. 3 -- Hayes Lemmerz International,
Inc. , one of the world's leading suppliers of automotive and
commercial highway wheels, brakes, suspension, structural and other light
weight components to the global transportation industry, announced  that it
has increased its ownership of Siam Lemmerz Co., Ltd., a major aluminum wheel
producer in Thailand, from 25% to 70%.  Siam Tyre Plc of the Siam Cement Group
will continue as a joint venture partner with 30% equity.
    Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
    Increasing ownership in Thailand is consistent with Hayes Lemmerz's global
automotive strategy.  This transaction is also consistent with the business
restructuring of Siam Cement Group in reducing their stake in non-core
businesses and concentrating in their core businesses of cement,
petrochemical, and industrial paper and packaging.
    Siam Lemmerz Co., Ltd. has an aluminum wheel facility near Bangkok,
Thailand that employs 300 and has a capacity of 700,000 wheels.  Among the
plant's customers are General Motors/Isuzu, Toyota, DaimlerChrysler, and
Mitsubishi.  It also exports to Europe.
