Subaru Announces July Sales Figures; Company Reports Best July Sales Since 1987
    CHERRY HILL, N.J., Aug. 2 -- Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA)
today announced its July sales figures -- its best July since 1987.  Subaru
recorded a sales total of 13,233 units for the month, up 1 percent over the
same period last year (13,071 units).  Year-to-date totals of 85,478 units are
up 8 percent over 1998 year-to-date totals of 78,827 units.
    The Legacy model line led sales with 7,020 units posted.  The Outback
accounted for 5,067 units.  Forester posted sales of 4,305 units, an increase
of 23 percent over the same month last year.
    Subaru of America, inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fuji Heavy
Industries Ltd. of Japan.  Headquartered near Philadelphia, the company
markets and distributes Subaru vehicles, parts and accessories through a
network of nearly 600 franchised dealers across the United States.  All Legacy
models sold in the U.S., including the Outback and Outback Sedan, are produced
at the company's American manufacturing plant, Subaru-Isuzu Automotive, Inc.
