Meritor Automotive Elects Vernon G. Baker II, Corporate Officer
    TROY, Mich., Aug. 2 -- Meritor Automotive Inc.
announced that its board of directors has elected Vernon G. Baker II, senior
vice president, general counsel and secretary, reporting directly to Chairman
and Chief Executive Officer, Larry D. Yost.
    "We are very pleased to have Vernon Baker join our leadership team.  His
diverse industry background and knowledge of the research and development and
advanced material practices will complement the advancement of our global
growth initiatives.  His broad experience brings unique insight and enhanced
perspective to our organization," Yost stated.
    In this position, Baker holds overall legal responsibility for all of
Meritor's global operations and its subsidiaries and will direct all legal
activities of the corporation including acquisitions and divestitures,
litigation, regulatory compliance and intellectual property.
    Baker assumes responsibilities from David W. Greenfield who will continue
to support Meritor in an advisory role.
    Baker joins Meritor from Hoechst Celanese Corporation where he most
recently served as vice president and general counsel, Corporate Research and
Technology.  In addition, he has served as associate general counsel for the
Advanced Material Group.  Prior to that, Baker served as counsel to Scott
Paper Company and was an associate in the firm of Schnader, Harrison, Segal
and Lewis.
    Baker holds a juris doctorate from the American University, Washington
College of Law, and a bachelor of arts degree from Dartmouth College, Hanover,
N.H.
