Gallatin Steel Announces Record-Breaking 2nd Quarter

GHENT, Ky.--Aug. 2, 1999--Gallatin Steel announced today record-breaking quarterly production and shipping results for the second quarter of 1999.
The Kentucky steel manufacturer produced 327,547 tons in the second quarter of 1999, compared to the previous record of 298,959 tons established in the first quarter of 1999.
"We produced 10 percent more steel in the second quarter of 1999 than we did during the record-setting first quarter. The fact that we have had two consecutive record quarters speaks for itself," said Gallatin Steel Vice President & General Manager Don B. Daily. "I could not be more pleased with our performance, and I am extremely proud of our people for what they have accomplished. It's been a real team effort that has truly paid off."
Shipping performance followed suit as the shipment of 334,018 tons during the second quarter of 1999 also established a new quarterly shipping record. This represents a 9.2 percent increase over the previous record of 305,676 tons, which was also set during the first quarter of 1999.
Additionally, the production of 112,395 tons in May set a new all-time monthly production record and the shipment of 115,002 tons in June set a new all-time monthly shipping record. "I'm not sure who keeps records on these sorts of things, but I would have to think that casting over 112,000 tons through a single thin-slab casting machine may well be a record of some sort," Daily added.
"The Gallatin team really needs to be commended on a job well done," Daily said. "It's a real testimony to our associates that we not only set new production and shipping records, but also that we did so while maintaining our string of days worked without a lost time accident." As of June 30, the Gallatin Steel associates had worked 855 days without a lost time accident.
