TRACKS: Moore and Tremont win Twin 20's on Emerick Associates Night at Lebanon Valley

1 August 1999

West Lebanon, NY- Lebanon Valley Speedway celebrated their 47th anniversary
Saturday night with Twin 20's for the modifieds. Chris Moore took the win in
the first 20-lap modified feature and Kenny Tremont won the nightcap. K.C.
Goewey won the sportsman race while Jim Lagenback won the street stock main.
Craig Simmons won the 15-lap IMCA modified feature.

Chris Moore took the lead on the start of the first 20-lap modified
feature. Moore was in a borrowed car as Jody Tornabene let Moore borrow his
racecar. Moore made the most of the opportunity by leading every lap of the
race. The only caution of the race flew on lap six when Donnie Corellis,
Brian Burger and Guy Sheldon came together in turn four. Eddie Marshall put
the pressure on third place runner, Dave Leckonby, on the restart.

The middle portion of this race saw a great side by side battle for the
seventh position between Tim Dwyer and Kenny Tremont. The two raced together
for several laps before Tremont was finally able to gain the advantage on lap
13. Moore remained strong at the front maintaining a good lead over the
second place car of Maynard Forrette. Marshall and Leckonby continued their
battle for third throughout the remainder of the event with Leckonby getting
third at the finish. Marshall came home fourth and Tremont got all the way up
to fifth when the laps ran out.

Mike King led the field down for the second modified feature of the
evening. He lost the lead on a lap three restart to Donnie Corellis. Two
cautions slowed the pace on lap five. The second was for Todd Wilkinson, who
spun while running in the top ten. Several other cars were caught up in the
incident. Dickie Larkin moved into third on lap six. Tremont worked his way
up from his 15th starting spot to challenge Marshall for third on lap eight.
The top five at the halfway mark were Corellis, Larkin, Tremont, Marshall and
Tim Dwyer.

Larkin began to pressure Corellis for the lead on lap 13. Tremont snuck
around Larkin for second on lap 14 and set his sights on the front-running
Corellis. The two raced side by side for the lead on lap 16. The final
caution of the race flew on lap 17 setting up a three-lap shootout to the
finish. Tremont was able to get under Corellis and take the lead as the field
took the white flag. Tremont was able to open a couple of car length lead and
take home his eleventh win of the season. Corellis hung on for second with
Larkin third Marshall fourth and Dwyer rounded out the top five.

Jason Tompkins was the leader of the first three laps of the 20-lap
sportsman feature. Ernie Palmer took the lead away from Palmer on a lap three
restart. Art Collins was on the charge early taking over fourth position on
lap four. Last week's winner, K.C. Goewey; was back into the top five on lap
four. Mike Boomhower passed Palmer for the lead on lap five as Collins took
over second. Collins looked to make the pass on Boomhower by lap eight. The
two raced side by side going into turn three and there was contact. The two
crashed into turn three and several other cars got caught up in the melee.
K.C. Goewey was in command of the race as a result of the incident. He
was followed by Hawley Smith, Jay Casey, Palmer and Lorne Browe. The top four
went single file and began to pull away from the rest of the pack by lap 13.
Goewey was never challenged for the top spot and took home his second
straight win of the season. Smith came in second with Casey third, Browe
fourth and Palmer fifth.

Bob Miller led the first two laps of the 20-lap street stock feature.
Frank Twing took the lead from Miller on lap three. Weekly front-runners, Bob
Duzlak and Jim Lagenback had worked their way up to the top five by the
halfway portion of the event. Duzlak put pressure on Twing for the lead on
lap ten. Duzlak almost made the pass in turn three on lap eleven. He and
Twing got hooked together and that allowed Butch Irwin and Lagenback to move
into first and second.

Lagenback made the pass for the lead at the three-quarter mark. Duzlak spun
on the frontstretch on lap 15, Twing was sent to the rear for his role in the
spin. The final five laps remained uneventful as Lagenback cruised home for
his second win in a row and sixth on the season. Irwin was second and Al
Blackburn had his second top five run in a row finishing third. Robbie Speed
was fourth and Dave Kokindo rounded out the top five.

Kevin Buff once again led the field down to the start of the 15-lap IMCA. Bad
luck would strike Buff as he dropped from the event of lap eight. Donnie
Denue had taken the lead from Huff early in the race. Denue would survive
several restarts to stay on the point. Jim Rajczi was recovering from an
early race incident; he was back up to fifth by lap seven. Denue's good run
came to an end when his motor went up in smoke on lap nine. Jeff Carr was
running right behind Denue and spun in turn one bringing out the caution on
lap ten. Craig Simmons inherited the lead and was able to hold off a
hard-charging George Catanzano for the victory.
