Gallatin Steel Now On World Wide Web

GHENT, Ky.--July 30, 1999--Gallatin Steel is now on line.
The Kentucky steel manufacturer recently unveiled its World Wide Web site - www.GallatinSteel.com. The site caters to a variety of audiences, offering information for customers, employees and the general public.
"Our site is going to prove a useful tool for customers, employees and visitors, not just a presence on the Web," said Gallatin Steel's Vice President & General Manager Don B. Daily. "The site is highly interactive and very informative."
The Gallatin Steel site puts information at the customer's fingertips by giving them sales contact information and lead times for order placement with just the click of a button. Employees can log on to view company updates, work schedules, the latest issue of the company newsletter and benefit information. Visitors can read a copy of Gallatin Steel's community newsletter, GSC Today, submit a resume or take a virtual plant tour right on line.
"This site will allow us to serve our neighbors and customers in a whole new way. E-commerce is here, and we want to stay out in front of the pack through our innovation and superior service," Daily said. "We also want our community and customers to know more about who we are."
The site, developed by a team of employees from different disciplines throughout the company, caters to the steel recycler's customers. Customer input was solicited as part of the site design.
"Servicing our customers was the primary focus behind our development of the site," said Gallatin Steel's General Manager of Commercial Rob Levey. "We wanted to make the site as easy to use as possible, while providing real-time information."
Levey continued by saying as Gallatin Steel moves forward the site will remain a focal point and undergo continual enhancements.
"By September of this year," Levey said, "Customers will be able to access a complete order status, including scheduling, promise dates and shipment information. Our Web Site will provide our customers the information they need to make decisions more efficiently."
Recruiting was another driving force behind the development of the Web Site. "We wanted to develop a system that would allow potential candidates to see Gallatin Steel's job opportunities and then submit their resume right on line with ease," said Ed Puisis, General Manager, Administration and Finance. "We believe our site will play a key role in our recruiting strategy."
