    PLYMOUTH, Mich., July 29 -- Automotive interior supplier
Johnson Controls announced the promotion of two top executives to
new positions, effective immediately. Michael J. Suman was appointed group
vice president of advanced sales, marketing, and business development --
worldwide. Nathan W. Young was named group vice president of new product
development, marketing planning and industrial design -- worldwide.

    "The appointments of Mike Suman and Nate Young solidify our commitment to
value-added customer service and product development," said Rande Somma,
president of marketing and development -- worldwide for Johnson Controls.
"Their expanded roles ensure that our advanced product development, sales and
design teams are operating in alignment with consumers and our customers."
    Suman, 49, served as vice president of advanced sales and marketing since
1997. In his new position, Suman is responsible for directing the company's
commercialization process, and the advanced sales, marketing and business
development activities for interior and seating systems worldwide. He
continues to report to Somma.
    Before being appointed vice president, Suman was director of advanced
sales and marketing for the former Prince Corporation (acquired by Johnson
Controls in 1996). He has served in various positions of increasing
responsibility in engineering, sales and marketing with the company since 1978
and has more than 40 patents to his credit.
    Suman attended Ferris State University and the University of Louisville
where he studied engineering and business.
    Young, 43, will lead Johnson Controls' new product development and
industrial design activities throughout the world. He will report to Somma.
    Prior to his promotion, Young served as vice president of industrial
design. Before being named vice president in 1994, Young was director of
industrial design. He has worked in several positions of increasing
responsibility since joining the former Prince Corporation in 1987.
    Young earned a degree in transportation from the Art Center College of
Design in Pasadena, California, and is a member of the board of trustees for
the college.
    The Plymouth, Michigan-based automotive business of Johnson Controls
employs more than 57,000 people at 275 facilities worldwide. In 1999, it will
supply interior products for more than 22 million vehicles. The automotive
business achieved US$9.3 billion in sales for the 1998 fiscal year.
