Thrifty Car Rental Adds 44 Stores, Eight New Markets, and Four In-Terminal Locations
TULSA, Okla., July 29 -- Thrifty Car Rental continues to
rapidly expand in the U.S. with the addition of 44 stores, eight new markets
and in-terminal counters at Chicago Midway Airport, Mobile Regional Airport in
Alabama, the new Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport in Bentonville, AR, and
Manchester Airport in New Hampshire.
Thrifty opened last month at Midway Airport, which is undergoing a
resurgence with record passenger traffic prompting construction of a new
$510 million terminal building scheduled for completion in 2002.
The company also opened last month at the Northwest Arkansas airport in
Bentonville, home of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Since the airport opened in
November, four airlines have begun service to hubs in Atlanta, Chicago,
Dallas, Memphis and St. Louis, and a fifth is planning service to Kansas City
and Little Rock.
Thrifty also recently opened in Des Moines, IA, Shreveport, LA, and
McAllen, TX, all with airport-serving facilities. And Thrifty is now in
Nashua, NH, Telluride, CO, and Aiken, SC, with suburban market locations.
"Thrifty continues on an expansion fast-track, and it's not one that shows
signs of slowing down," said Jeff Cerefice, Vice President, U.S. Licensee
Operations. "By year-end, we expect to enter several more major markets on
our way to another banner year in franchise sales. Our U.S. franchise owners
are also playing a big role in fueling our growth as they increase their
market penetration by opening new stores in their existing territories."
In addition to the new market locations, Thrifty has added 44 new
locations across the country since the first of the year. Those downtown,
suburban and hotel facilities serve cities from Kahului, HI, to Fort
Lauderdale, FL. Other new locations have also opened in several major cities,
including Chicago, IL; Dallas, TX; Tucson, AZ; Huntsville, AL; Alexandria,
VA; Rockville, MD and Pasadena, CA.
Thrifty Car Rental, a subsidiary of Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group, Inc.
, is an international network of about 1,200 locations in
67 countries around the world. Thrifty serves both the airport market and the
local car rental market, and is one of the country's largest airport parking
operators with more than 14,000 spaces in 48 U.S. cities. Additional
