Delphi Invests $15.5 Million in Its Facilities
FLINT, Mich., July 27 -- Delphi Automotive Systems
is investing $15.5 million in several of its U.S. facilities,
according to Donald L. Runkle, president of Delphi Energy & Engine Management
Systems. "These investments in lean manufacturing and in upgrading our
facilities are important to our competitiveness," Runkle said. "We want to be
recognized by our customers as their best supplier."
Delphi will invest $6.8 million in its generator operations located in
Anderson, Ind. The investment is for the installation of new equipment and
tooling for a lean generator assembly cell to produce a new high-output
generator for a future truck program.
Delphi also is investing $1.4 million in its battery production process.
Delphi will install new equipment and tooling for battery production in all
four of Delphi's U.S. battery plants -- Anaheim, Calif.; Fitzgerald, Ga.; New
Brunswick, N.J.; and Olathe, Kan. The equipment includes technological
improvements in the plate manufacturing process. This new process will help
improve quality and material flow.
In addition, Delphi is investing $2.8 million in its Fitzgerald, Ga.,
facility to install lean equipment for battery production. The new equipment
will combine two operations and will improve material flow and provide
ergonomic improvements for the operators.
Also in Fitzgerald, Delphi is investing $1 million to replace and upgrade
brick flooring. This new flooring will provide better impact, abrasion and
chemical resistance, and offers improved environmental safeguards.
In Rochester, N.Y., Delphi is investing $3.5 million to complete the last
phase of a re-roofing project at its Lexington Avenue plant.
