AMA: Davey Camlin, In Memory of a Champion

PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- The AMA Grand National Dirt Track Series lost one of its favorites July 24, when racer Davey Camlin died as a result of injuries received in a crash during qualifying for the Du Quoin Mile in Illinois.The crash occurred on the front straight, during the first lap of the second semi-final for the Grand National race. Riders Kevin Atherton, Brett Landes, Johnny Murphree,Gary Rogers and Paul Lynch were also involved in the crash.
A fan favorite, Camlin won the championship in the 1997 AMA Harley-Davidson Sportster Performance Series, and he was a consistent front-runner in the AMA Grand National Dirt Track Series. He accumulated four National race wins over the course of his 13-year professional career, including two wins at Du Quoin.
