Global GT: Cindy Lux wint thriller at Sears Point
27 July 1999
Sears Point, California - Portland, Oregon racer Cindi Lux turned in a great drive today to claim first-place in the Women's Global GT Series race at Sears Point, California. The series racers run identically-prepared Panoz GT cars in a series of races which run in conjunction with The American LeMans Series.Polesitter Allison Duncan of San Rafael, California, spun her car on the pace lap, causing her to be black-flagged to the back of the field. Lux, starting third, moved into second place on the first lap with Duncan's mishap, and then took over the lead with a brilliant pass of second-place qualifier Divina Galica. A tremendous duel ensued, with Lux turning in a tenacious drive and coming out on top despite a mishap which nearly forced her off the track.
The race was Lux's first under the sponsorship of Seattle, Washington-based The Cobalt Group. The company is a leading provider of internet solutions for auto dealerships and manufacturers. Lux now leads the series points standings heading into the next race at Portland International Raceway, her home track.
Lux, in commenting on the outcome of the race, was pleased to put in a good showing in her first race with Cobalt. "This is just a fantastic result for Cobalt. I'm thrilled to be heading home with the series points lead and a win in our first race together. Portland is kind of home ground for both Cobalt and myself, so it really couldn't have worked out much better."
Lux and her team will now set up shop in Portland for an entire week of activities leading up to the next race which takes place Sunday, August 1st, 1999.
