CASCAR: Sales dominates CASCAR Castrol Super Series West race in Prince George
25 July 1999
PRINCE GEORGE, BC - For the second time in as many weeks, a British Columbia native has won a CASCAR Castrol Super Series West race in his home province. Last week, it was Prince George, BC's Steve Jefferson who claimed victory in the race at Quesnel, BC. And on Saturday night at the PGARA Speedway in Prince George, BC, Quesnel native Don Sales dominated en route to victory in the Auto Tire Magic 150. Sales' Skoal Inc. Chevrolet Monte Carlo started the 150 lap race on the outside of the front row and quickly moved to the front. A 10 lap caution period - immediately following the completion of the first lap - was the only slowdown for Sales, who led every lap of the event. Steve Jefferson's Mopar Batteries Dodge was second in front of his hometown crowd, ahead of Edmonton's Fred DelPero. Western frontrunner Kevin Dowler was involved in a heavy crash during practice which resulted in a broken shoulder for the Edmonton Ford driver. The injury casts doubt on his ability to compete in the CASCAR Castrol Super Series National events scheduled to take place in a few weeks time.
