Prescient Technologies, Inc. Announces GeometryQA for CATIA; New Geometry Quality Product Identifies Geometric Data Errors Early in the Design Process
BOSTON--July 23, 1999--Prescient Technologies, Inc., the leading provider of engineering quality software solutions, announced today the availability of a new quality improvement tool, GeometryQA. Available currently for use with geometric models in CATIA, an industry-leading CAD/CAM system from Dassault Systemes , GeometryQA reduces design cycles and lowers product development costs by detecting and assessing geometry problems in computer-aided design models.GeometryQA reduces the number of design iterations required to bring new products to market by identifying and solving geometric modeling problems. By using GeometryQA, companies in aerospace, automotive, electronics, and other discrete manufacturing industries can improve product quality by: eliminating issues such as gaps and slivers that affect manufacturing, ensuring smooth model surfaces, reducing model size and data exchange time, and decreasing the computational hardware requirements and analysis duration time.
"In product engineering, geometric problems are not only difficult to find, but are extremely expensive to fix at the manufacturing stage," said Gavin Finn, president and CEO of Prescient Technologies. "By eliminating these errors at the source with GeometryQA, companies can reduce expensive rework costs and delays in product delivery."
GeometryQA standards are consistent with the VDA Recommendations established by the German automotive industry to address difficulties in manufacturing and translating CAD/CAM data from one system to another. GeometryQA is completely integrated with Prescient Technologies' other engineering quality tool, DesignQA(r).
Enhancements to DesignQA
Prescient Technologies also announced enhancements to its flagship product, DesignQA. DesignQA is used by Fortune 100 companies throughout the world for detecting, assessing, correcting, and preventing product development problems caused by inaccurate, incomplete, or inconsistent design modeling practices.
"We have been working with the beta software for over six weeks and we are pleased with its functionality and by the responsiveness of Prescient Technologies," said Dan Helfer, model/drawing checking project manager for the Virtual Product Development Initiative at Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems . "We are beginning a pilot implementation of DesignQA to further develop the business case for the implementation of the software across Product Engineering."
For users of CATIA, DesignQA Version 3.0 includes ten new quality standards and other improvements, including visualization of failed elements, model stamping of quality results, and combined conditional standards.
GeometryQA and DesignQA Version 3.0 for CATIA V4 are shipping on IBM AIX, Sun Solaris, HP-UX, and SGI-IRIX platforms.
