Toyota Reports Best-Ever Certified Used Vehicle Sales for Fifth-Consecutive Month

    TORRANCE, Calif., July 22 -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS),
U.S.A., Inc., reported today a best-ever monthly record for Toyota Certified
Used Vehicle June sales.  This marks the fifth-consecutive month that Toyota
Certified Used Vehicles have posted best-ever monthly sales.
    June sales of Toyota Certified Used Vehicles totaled 10,772, an increase
of 49.2 percent compared to June 1998.  Calendar-year-to-date sales total
57,639, up 32.2 percent compared to the same period last year.
    "As new Toyota cars and trucks continue to set sales records, so do Toyota
Certified Used Vehicles," said Guillermo Hysaw, TMS corporate manager, used
vehicle operations department.  "Obviously, purchasing one of our certified
used vehicles is every bit as appealing to many consumers as a new Toyota
product."
    The Toyota Used Vehicle process, established in 1996, continues to provide
the best pre-owned warranty in the industry.  The warranty, from date of first
use, includes six-year, 100,000-mile powertrain coverage, as well as an
optional comprehensive 100,000-mile vehicle service agreement.  And, 24-hour
roadside assistance also is provided free of charge for one year.
    On June 15, Toyota enhanced its certified used program by adding 10,000
miles and one model year to the vehicles' eligibility.  All 1994-1999 Toyota
models with less than 65,000 miles are now eligible for the program.  Prior to
sale, each vehicle receives a rigorous 128-point inspection of all mechanical
and safety functions, as well as overall appearance considerations.
