Soap Box Derby to Receive Exposure on TNN
AKRON, Ohio, July 22 -- The 62nd Annual All-American Soap Box
Derby, presented this year with title sponsorship from The Goodyear Tire &
Rubber Company, will have nationally televised exposure on TNN (The Nashville
Network).
In addition, Time Warner Cable will broadcast a one-hour Soap Box Derby
highlights segment in August in the Northeast Ohio markets that it serves.
"As the 1999 title sponsor of the Derby, we wanted to achieve some
national broadcast media exposure that's commensurate with the scope of the
event, which draws competitors from all over the U.S. and from several other
countries," said Marco Molinari, Goodyear's vice president of sales and
marketing, North American Tire. "The combination of TNN and Time Warner race
coverage and recognition of these young champions will help to expand
participation for the Soap Box Derby."
Tony DeLuca, executive director of the Soap Box Derby, said, "Combined
with Goodyear's support on a national scale, these broadcasting efforts will
help us to broaden the attraction of the Soap Box Derby and hopefully gain the
interest of additional prospective racers in coming years."
The TNN broadcast schedule for the July 31 Soap Box Derby championship
races includes same-day exposure in a segment during the network's live,
primetime coverage of the NASCAR Busch Grand National race from Madison, Ill.
Along with footage of the day's earlier activities from Akron, Ohio's Derby
Downs track, the Soap Box Derby winners will be recognized and congratulated
during the segment.
Additionally, TNN will produce and telecast a Soap Box Derby feature that
will air during the Oct. 24 edition of "Inside NASCAR."
Another Soap Box Derby feature will air on TNN during the Nov. 7 NASCAR
Winston Cup race in Phoenix, Ariz.
TNN is among the leading cable television networks in North America. The
network first went on the air in 1983, and now serves more than 76 million
homes in the U.S. and Canada.
