CASCAR busy at Cayuga and Prince George this weekend

22 July 1999

KOMOKA, ON - Following the highly successful performance by CASCAR's
competitors at the Molson Indy this past weekend, the CASCAR Castrol Super
Series East teams are returning to more familiar settings this weekend.

Sunday afternoon's Ford Quality Care 250 at Cayuga Speedway is the eighth
race on the '99 schedule and will pit defending race winner and current
points leader Don Thomson Jr. against more than three dozen drivers who are
hoping to challenge him on the 5/8-mile oval, located in Nelles Corners,
ON, just south of Hamilton.

In the six Super Series events held so far on ovals this season, the Home
Hardware Chevrolet driver has emerged victorious in three of them. The
Hamilton, ON racer is in the midst of his best ever CASCAR campaign and is
looking forward to a strong run at Cayuga to recover the significant points
margin he lost by finishing 25th on the temporary street circuit at the
Miller Lite 100 during the Molson Indy Toronto.

In this season's only other Cayuga event - held on June 27 - former
National champion Kerry Micks returned to CASCAR's victory lane after a
prolonged absence. Micks' win in that 250 lap race was the only victory not
to go to a General Motors driver on the Eastern circuit so far this summer.
With the race bearing their sponsor's name, Micks, Dave Whitlock, Mark
Dilley, Kelly Williams and several other Ford Taurus pilots will be gunning
for a second win for their manufacturer.

Dodge driver DJ Kennington finds himself in a two-way tie for second in the
standings - 72 points behind Thomson - with fellow St. Thomas, ON racer
Pete Vanderwyst. Kennington has been extremely consistent in his Castrol
Canada Dodge this season and is on the hunt for his second career Super
Series win. Vanderwyst is also hungry for victory and is hoping to get the
monkey off his back at Cayuga. The Loctite Chevy racer is coming off
consecutive third and fourth-place results in the last two Eastern races
and is intent on closing the deal on his first ever CASCAR Super Series
victory.

Time Trials for the Ford Quality Care 250 commence on Saturday (July 24)
afternoon at 1 p.m. Heat races follow at 2:00. Sunday's program gets
underway at 12:30 p.m. with the popular driver autograph session on the
front-straight. The racers will be introduced at 1:50, with the green flag
scheduled to fly for the 250 lap feature event at 2:15.

Prior to the weekend's 'on-track' activities at Cayuga Speedway, the City
of Hamilton will get into the act by hosting a parade through the city's
downtown core on Friday afternoon. Starting at 12:30 p.m. at City Hall, the
parade will make its way along Main and King streets, before eventually
ending up at Hamilton's Centre Mall where many of the CASCAR Late Models
that will be racing at Cayuga Speedway will be on display. Fans can take
part in a pit stop competition and change a wheel on the
championship-winning Ford Quality Care Taurus of reigning National champion
Dave Whitlock. That runs from 3:00 to 6:30. And at 7:00 p.m., the highly
skilled CASCAR Castrol Super Series pit crews will compete in a pit stop
competition for cash.

Auto Magic Tire 150 / Prince George, British Columbia

On Saturday, the CASCAR Castrol Super Series West will take to the track at
Prince George, BC for the Auto Magic Tire 150 at PGARA Speedway. The race
is the second in as many weeks to be held in British Columbia.

Prince George native Steve Jefferson is returning to his hometrack full of
confidence after winning the CASCAR Super Series race at Quesnel, BC's Gold
Pan Speedway on Sunday afternoon. Jefferson's Mopar Batteries Dodge powered
to the front at the midway point of the Quesnel event and he never looked
back. The former road racer is currently running second to Saskatoon, SK's
Dan Shirley in the Western points chase (24 points back) and would love to
make it two in a row in the season's only visits to his home province.

Edmonton's Carl Harr is the defending champion of the Auto Magic Tire 150.
He finished second to Jefferson on Sunday afternoon at Gold Pan Speedway
and will be running hard to defend his lone race win of '98.

Time Trials for the Auto Magic Tire 150 commence at 4:30 p.m., with the
driver autograph session following at 5:30. The evening's racing card
starts at 6:00 p.m.
