Detroit Diesel Corporation Announces New Director to Board
    DETROIT, July 21 -- Richard M. Donnelly has been elected to
the Board of Directors of Detroit Diesel Corporation (DDC).  The
appointment was unanimously approved at a meeting of the company's Board of
Directors held on July 20, 1999, and became effective immediately.  His
appointment increases the Board membership to 12.
    "We are very pleased about Dick Donnelly joining our Board of Directors.
His extensive experience in global vehicle and powertrain manufacturing will
be very valuable in our efforts to strengthen our products and broaden our
markets," said Roger S. Penske, Chairman of Detroit Diesel Corporation.
    As President of General Motors Europe (GME) from 1995 to 1998, Mr.
Donnelly had profit and loss responsibility for a business with annual
revenues of $25 billion, 80,000 employees, production in 11 countries and
annual sales of 1.9 million vehicles in 42 countries.  Mr. Donnelly also
served as Chairman of GM's European Strategy Board and a member of GM's Global
and International Strategy Boards.  In addition to serving on the Board of
Directors of Saab Automobile and Isuzu Motors, Mr. Donnelly has extensive Lean
manufacturing experience including Director of Manufacturing for Isuzu in
Japan.
    In 1999, Donnelly became a consultant focusing on strategies for
manufacturing, restructuring and globalization.  Mr. Donnelly is a graduate
electrical engineer from Kettering University, attended advanced courses at
Harvard and holds an MBA from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
    Detroit Diesel Corporation is engaged in the design, manufacture, sale and
service of heavy-duty diesel and alternative fuel engines, automotive diesel
