NASCAR WWEST: Hard Work Rewarded With Second Place Finish for McAnally
22 July 1999
July 21, 1999 (Roseville, CA) - Following disappointing finishes in the two most recent NASCAR Winston West races, Sean Woodside and Bill McAnally Racing took advantage of a four week hiatus in the schedule to analyze their operations and search for ways to improve their performance. Their efforts were amply rewarded in last Sunday's Coors Light 200 at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Washington with an extremely strong performance, capped by a second place finish. The No. 16 NAPA/Martin Senour Chevrolet Monte Carlo ran easily in the top five for all but just a couple of laps throughout the race, and led a total of twenty-three laps. Two excellent pit stops under caution for gas and four tires each helped maintain track position and kept the car on the track for the duration of the race. Bill McAnally commented "Even though we were in second place in the points standings as of the end of the first half of the season, we just didn't feel that we were performing at our best. We reviewed everything from car preparation to pit stops, identified where we could improve, and went to work. Everyone on the team pulled together, and we all feel very good about our performance Sunday." Woodside said "A great team effort and great pit stops kept us with the leaders Sunday. It's just easier to look good on the track when all the pieces are in place. I think we all came away happy with the second place finish. I know I was, and I had a lot of fun as well." The next event on the NASCAR Winston West schedule is the Grainger 200 Presented by TCI at Portland Speedway on August 14. Bill McAnally Racing (BMR) owns and operates the No. 16 NAPA Auto Parts/Martin Senour Automotive Finishes/NAPA Filters/California Integrated Waste Management Recycled Oil Program Chevrolet Monte Carlo NASCAR Winston West team with Sean Woodside as driver. They are in second place in the points standings, and are leading in the Gatorade Front Runner Award and Clevite Engine Builder Award races. Current season results include one win, three top five and five top ten finishes. Woodside finished both the 1997 and 1998 seasons in second place in the Winston West points standings.
