Comdisco Delivers Nationwide Managed Network Solution to 1,300 American Honda and Acura Dealerships

ROSEMONT, Ill.--July 20, 1999--Comdisco, Inc. , a global technology services company, announced a major agreement to deliver managed network services to American Honda Motor Company, Inc. . Comdisco is providing over 1,300 American Honda and Acura retail automotive dealerships in the United States with wide area network design, implementation and ongoing network management.
In an effort to further enhance customer satisfaction through improved communications within its organization and support marketing and corporate training initiatives, American Honda is establishing an interactive network connecting its corporate offices and remote dealerships across the country. American Honda's business objectives require a distributed system that will facilitate access to informational resources such as electronic mail, Honda-specific intranet applications and Internet Web sites. Comdisco engineered a single vendor solution that optimizes network availability and overall throughput while providing for future connectivity for e-commerce activities.
"By choosing Comdisco to build a scalable technology infrastructure and develop a high capacity, fault-tolerant system, Honda can maximize business performance and ultimately maintain a competitive advantage," said Rafael Osso, general manager, Comdisco Network Services. "Our proven managed network services methodology and cost-effective solution allow Honda the flexibility to pursue new sales venues and accommodate market share growth."
"Honda is looking forward to bringing our dealers a state-of-the-art system that can deliver tools and services vital to meeting and exceeding customer demands," said David Heath, senior manager, American Honda automobile sales communications. "With Comdisco's technical expertise and innovative solutions, we have the support needed to develop a system that can respond effectively to present as well as future business requirements."
After exploring several topology, product and carrier options for American Honda, Comdisco engineered a hybrid solution that provides for network and application availability through redundant frame relay with ISDN backup and remote dial-in capabilities. Comdisco also designed a server, desktop and LAN infrastructure for American Honda's data center and remote dealer locations.
