Fleetwood Announces Acquisition of Western Recreational Vehicles, Inc.
RIVERSIDE, Calif., July 20 -- Fleetwood Enterprises, Inc.
, the nation's largest manufacturer of recreational vehicles and a
leading producer and retailer of manufactured housing, announced today that it
has signed a letter of intent to acquire Western Recreational Vehicles, Inc.
(Western RV) located in Yakima, Washington. Terms of the transactions were
not disclosed. Western RV is a privately held company.
Western RV, founded in 1971, manufactures fifth-wheel travel trailers and
truck campers under the Alpenlite brand name, and also produces Alpine Coach
motor homes and diesel-powered motor home chassis. In their latest fiscal
year, Western RV had sales of approximately $60 million. The company employs
about 560 people and operates two manufacturing facilities in Yakima.
Commenting on the acquisition, Fleetwood Chairman and CEO Glenn F. Kummer
said, "We are very pleased to have Western RV become a part of Fleetwood. The
addition of the Alpenlite and Alpine Coach products will certainly enhance the
Fleetwood family of RV brands and strengthen our market share position in
towable products and motor homes."
Fleetwood stated that the Western RV acquisition is expected to be
completed in about 60 days, and is contingent upon negotiation of a definitive
agreement, normal due diligence and Board of Directors approval of the
transaction.
