PPG'S Hepper Elected VP, Automotive Refinish
    PITTSBURGH, July 19 -- Douglas C. Hepper has been elected
vice president of automotive refinish at PPG Industries .  He had
been general manager of the unit, one of PPG's largest and fastest-growing
global strategic business units, since 1997.
    Hepper, 49, joined PPG in 1973 as a chemist at the Torrance, Calif.,
coatings plant, and subsequently held technical development and planning posts
at several locations.  He was appointed European coatings planning and market
development manager in Paris in 1980, and was European coatings operations
manager before becoming assistant general manager of PPG's Italian coatings
subsidiary in 1985.
    He went to Cleveland in 1986 as automotive original equipment coatings
technical coordinator, and then was director of electrodeposition coatings
marketing and director of pretreatments in Troy, Mich.  Hepper returned to
Paris in 1994 as European original equipment coatings marketing director, was
named international managing director automotive refinish there in 1996, and
then moved to PPG's Pittsburgh headquarters as automotive refinish general
manager.
    A native of Joliet, Ill., Hepper is a chemistry graduate of Denison
University and earned a master's degree in business administration from the
University of Pittsburgh.
