CASCAR: Buck wins pole for Saturday's Miller Lite 100 at the Molson Indy Toronto
17 July 1999
TORONTO, ON - Robin Buck put his road racing experience to good use on Friday as the CASCAR Castrol Super Series made its first ever appearance on the streets of Toronto. The Oakville, ON resident posted the quickest time during the Friday afternoon qualifying session to win the pole for Saturday's Miller Lite 100. A total of 35 CASCAR Late Model stock cars took part in the half hour timed session. All will be on the grid for the 100 km (37 lap) feature which starts at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Buck's UAP/NAPA Pontiac Grand Prix earned the pole with a lap of 1 minute, 22.224 seconds, at an average speed of 121.278 km around the 11 turn street circuit on the grounds of Toronto's Exhibition Place. The former road racer has extensive experience at the track, but has never won there. He is also looking for his first CASCAR Castrol Super Series feature win and is hoping that he will kill two birds with one stone on Saturday. Lining up second for the Miller Lite 100 will be stock car racer Bill Rowse Jr. of Corunna, ON. Rowse's Collision World Chevrolet Monte Carlo was less than half a second behind Buck following qualifying. Edmonton's Kevin Dowler - another former road racer - was third fastest in his Ford Quality Care Taurus.
