Avis Announces Promotion of Lawrence E. Kinder to Chief Information OfficerGARDEN CITY, N.Y., July 15 -- Avis Rent A Car, Inc. today announced that it has promoted Lawrence E. Kinder to the position of Chief Information Officer. Mr. Kinder most recently was Senior Vice-President and Chief Information Officer of PHH Vehicle Management Services, the leading global vehicle management company acquired by Avis on June 30, 1999. In his new position with Avis, he will be responsible for developing and linking creative and effective technology solutions company-wide. In making the announcement, Kevin M. Sheehan, Avis' Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer said, "Larry has done a wonderful job at PHH of building a technology organization that has played a major role in the company's growth and success. Mr. Kinder joined PHH in 1996 as Vice President, Information Services. He was promoted to Senior Vice President and CIO in 1998, and later took the additional responsibility for PHH's Customer and Vehicle Services division. Under Mr. Kinder's leadership, PHH developed state-of-the-art data warehouse and Internet technology that has been a clear differentiator in the marketplace. PHH's technology capabilities received the prestigious 1999 ComputerWorld Smithsonian Award laureate medal and the 1999 CIO Web Business 50/50 Award -- both of which recognize innovative advances in business technology. Mr. Kinder came to PHH from American Management Systems, where he was a principal consulting with corporate and government organizations, including Fortune 500 companies, U.S. Presidential transition teams and the White House. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Science from the University of Pittsburgh. Avis is one of the world's leading providers of comprehensive automotive transportation and vehicle management solutions, with strengths in car rental, vehicle leasing, and vehicle management services. Avis operates the second largest general-use car rental business in the world, with locations in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the Latin American Caribbean region. Annually, on a pro forma basis, the Company generates approximately $4.0 billion in total revenue.
