Spatial Inc. Surpasses Milestone of 500 ACIS Licensees

    BOULDER, Colo.--July 15, 1999--

500th Licensee: ProModel Corporation Lauds ACIS 3D Modeling
Kernel and IGES Translator as Critical, Core Technologies For
Simulation Software

Spatial Inc. (AMEX: STY), the world's leading software developer of open, component 3D modeling technology and interoperability solutions, announced today that ProModel Corporation (Orem, UT), a recognized leader in the simulation industry, is the 500th licensee of the ACIS(R) 3D Modeling Toolkit(TM).
ProModel selected the ACIS 3D modeling kernel and IGES translator as critical, core technologies for the full-scale simulation software products they provide to world-leading industrial, commercial, governmental, educational, and healthcare organizations. With 513 licensees, Spatial has now surpassed the milestone of 500 -- a testament to the strong demand for ACIS 3D modeling and component products.
"We selected Spatial's ACIS 3D modeling kernel and IGES translator as the graphical backbone for ProModel's simulation software, because ACIS provides best-in-breed capability to our customers. ACIS products will allow us to set a new standard in realistic, smooth, and fast animation while giving our customers the ability to easily import data from other CAD systems," says Peter Kalish, president, ProModel Corporation. "Even better, ProModel can focus its resources on remaining the best available simulation and optimization software in the world -- confident that we have a relationship with Spatial that is just as aggressively advancing their leadership position in the 3D modeling industry." By selecting ACIS and being a Certified Microsoft(R) Solution Provider, ProModel affirms its commitment to providing its customers with the most interoperable and competitive products available in the simulation industry.
"We are delighted to push through the milestone of 500 ACIS 3D Toolkit licensees. ProModel, along with 512 additional customers, confirm ACIS as the industry standard 3D modeling kernel worldwide," said Bruce Morgan, president and CEO, Spatial Inc. "Spatial continues to invest aggressively in research and development for ACIS to widen our technology leadership, and to support our customers in an increasingly competitive market."

What the Industry Says About ACIS and its Leadership in the 3D Kernel Modeling Market

"Our broad customer base benefits from our relationship with Spatial. The ACIS 3D solid modeling kernel is an integral component of Mechanical Desktop's leading-edge functionality that allows users to take advantage of a complete design-through-manufacturing solution," says Dominic Gallello, executive vice president, Design Solutions Division, Autodesk, Inc. . "I applaud Spatial's achievement of its 500th licensee. It is no wonder with the extraordinary progress that Spatial has made with ACIS over the last few years. Our customers continue to benefit from the advances in ACIS as well as the large ACIS community with which they communicate."
"It's clear that Spatial is committed to its schedule of offering consistent, industry breakthrough technologies in the areas of CAD geometry interoperability and model healing. We believe that our readers will take special note of this, the 500th ACIS licensee, as an indicator that Spatial remains on the forefront of component modeling," stated Arnie Williams, editor-in-chief, CADENCE.
"Incorporating the ACIS kernel into Alias|Wavefront's Industrial Design products allows us to offer a much richer solution for our customers," adds Dr. Warren Pratt, president of Alias|Wavefront, a subsidiary of Silicon Graphics, Inc. . "ACIS capabilities are allowing us to easily offer significant new capabilities and will also enhance our integration with solid modeling systems. More than ever, our customers can confidently tackle the most complex of modeling and technical surfacing challenges."
"Visionary Design System is realizing tremendous success for IronCAD as a result of its revolutionary architecture that includes the ACIS solid modeling kernel. We determined early on that including ACIS as part of our product's configuration would allow our customers to import CAD geometry more easily, generate more accurate designs, and manufacture dynamic products faster and more cost effectively than the processes they used before. This winning combination is a reality today and our customers are more globally competitive as a result of our foresight in aligning with Spatial," remarked David Tiley, president and CEO, Visionary Design Systems, Inc.
"Spatial's 500th ACIS license is indicative of the broad acceptance the company is finding for its component software. I believe that the decision to license a geometric kernel depends upon more than just the functionality and quality of the basic software. Application developers want and need to know that the vendor of modeling software can also provide other necessary components and can do so with business terms that are mutually beneficial. Spatial has done an outstanding job in recent years to meet these needs," said David Weisberg, publisher, Engineering Automation Report and A-E-C Newsletter.
"Our goal is to provide highly intuitive and easy-to-learn tools that let designers quickly capture and present their ideas," says John Thornborrow, president, Ashlar, Inc. "With ACIS at the core, Vellum Solids' Integrated Design Environment becomes an extension of designers' creativity. We value our strong relationship with Spatial because ACIS technology allows us to leverage our strengths in surface modeling and advanced blending capabilities for the stylized product design market."
"Congratulations to Spatial! Five hundred ACIS licensees affirms the extensive impact ACIS enjoys in today's design engineering marketplace, and Spatial's continued drive in delivering the quality geometric modeling for today's sophisticated design engineering applications," said Dr. Ken Versprille, program manager, Design Creation and Validation, D. H. Brown Associates, Inc.
"The issue of CAD geometry interoperability has plagued manufacturers for decades. Spatial has consistently responded with innovative technology to help ease the transfer and healing of geometry so that companies can get on with the business of generating higher quality products, at a faster rate and more affordably than hitherto. The industry recognizes Spatial as a leader in providing 3D modeling component technology as a prerequisite for state-of-the-art design," says Dr. Charles Clarke, IT and CAD/CAM consultant, Random Consulting, UK.
"Spatial's accelerating growth is founded on the dramatically stepped-up pace of technological progress and customer satisfaction with ACIS," said Bruce Jenkins, vice president, Daratech, Inc. (Cambridge, MA). "Now the company is building on its success with a series of strategic acquisitions and internal developments aimed at solving the problem of CAD system interoperability -- an area where the opportunity is orders of magnitude larger than in its traditional business."
