NASCAR Trucks: A Team ASE Homecoming at Nazareth
16 July 1999
* Mike Wallace heads to Nazareth in the 8th position in NASCAR Craftsman Truck points. It is still a tight points race with eleven races to go, and with many tracks at which Wallace and Ultra Motorsports have some very good history. * Team ASE Crew Chief Tim Kohuth is a native of Allentown, PA and is looking forward to "going home" for the weekend. Kohuth has been in motorsports since the age of 12 and raced late models and modifieds on the dirt and asphalt tracks of the Allentown area. In 1986, Kohuth was "discovered" by Junie Donlavey and moved to Richmond to begin his NASCAR career full-time with Donlavey. In 1987, Kohuth joined Schrader Racing, where he won the ARCA Daytona race with Mike Wallace, and BGN Dover and Talladega races with Ken Schrader as the driver. In 1999, Kohuth made the career move to Ultra Motorsports in search of his first NASCAR Championship. Interestingly enough, Kohuth's racing hero is a dragster - Don "The Snake" Prudhomme. * Team ASE crewmembers Matt Pucchia and Kevin Buskirk are also from the Allentown area, Buskirk a former racer himself. Between Kohuth, Pucchia, and Buskirk there should be plenty of family and friends supporting the team from the grandstands on Sunday. * Kohuth will be taking the same truck to Nazareth that Ultra Motorsports won the pole with here last year. It is also the same truck that won this year with Wallace at the helm at Pikes Peak International Raceway. Kohuth and Co. expressed some concerns about the track surface, which crumbled in a few places last year, but trusts that NASCAR will be on top of any situation that may arise. * Ultra Motorsports NCTS record at Nazareth (with Mike Bliss/Barry Dodson) 1996: Q 4th F 11th 152/152 laps 1997: Q POLE F 3rd 200/200 laps 1998: Q POLE F 25th 145/200 laps * Mike Wallace NCTS record at Nazareth 1998: Q 16th F 22nd 174/200 laps (engine)
