Meritor Automotive Elects Board of Directors

Meritor Automotive Elects Rhonda L. Brooks and Victoria B. Jackson To Board of Directors
    TROY, Mich., July 14 -- Meritor Automotive Inc.
announced that Rhonda L. Brooks and Victoria B. Jackson were today elected to
its Board of Directors.  With these most recent elections, Meritor's Board of
Directors increases to nine members.
    Brooks, 47, is the President of the Roofing Systems Business of Owens
Corning, Toledo, OH.  She joined Owens Corning in 1995.  In addition to her
current role, Brooks has served as vice president of investor relations and
previously, vice president, marketing, Composites.  Prior to joining Owens
Corning, Brooks served in senior posts with PlyGem Industries, Warner-Lambert
and General Electric.
    Brooks holds a master's degree from Stanford University in Business
Administration and a bachelor's degree from Rice University in Mathematical
Science and Economics.
    Brooks also serves on the Board of Directors of Central Vermont Public
Service Corporation in Rutland, VT and is a member of the Corporation for
Effective Government in Toledo, OH.
    Jackson, 44, is the founder of DSS/ProDiesel, Inc., Nashville, TN, which
remanufactures and distributes diesel parts.  She served as president and
chief executive officer from 1982 until 1998 when the company was sold to
TransCom USA.
    Jackson holds a master's degree from Vanderbilt University in Business
Administration and a bachelor's degree from Belmont University in Business
Administration.
    Jackson also serves on the Board of Directors of Hussman International,
Amsouth Bancorporation and Whitman Corporation.  She is also a member of
various business, educational and civic organizations, including the Society
of International Business Fellows and the National Board of Junior
Achievement.  She is a past director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta
and a past Chair of the Alcohol and Beverage Commission for the state of
Tennessee.
    Meritor, with 1998 sales of more than $3.8 billion, is a global supplier
of a broad range of components and systems for commercial, specialty and light
vehicle OEMs and the aftermarket.  Meritor consists of two businesses:  Heavy
Vehicle Systems, a leading supplier of drivetrain systems and components for
medium- and heavy-duty trucks, trailers and off-highway equipment and
specialty vehicles, including military, bus and coach, and fire and rescue;
and Light Vehicle Systems, a major supplier of roof, door, access control,
suspension and seat adjusting systems, and wheel products for passenger cars,
light trucks and sport utility vehicles.
