CART: Team Gordon Heads to Toronto on a Roll, Ready to Kick Off Second Half of Season

14 July 1999

	TORONTO (July 13, 1999) - Consecutive points-producing runs at
Cleveland and Road America have Robby Gordon and his first-year CART
FedEx Championship Series team anxious to see what's in store for the
second half of the season, which begins with this weekend's Molson Indy
at Toronto's Exhibition Place.

"We've got a long, long way to go, but we're definitely on a roll,"
said the 30-year-old owner-driver, who brought his #22 Johns
Manville/Panasonic/Menards Toyota-powered Swift home in eighth place
this past weekend at Road America after finishing ninth on a wet and
wild afternoon in Cleveland three weekends ago.

Both times, Gordon methodically worked his way from far back on the
starting grid - 23rd at Road America, 24th at Cleveland - to score his
top-10 finish.

"That's a credit to all the guys on the team for giving me a solid race
car week in and week out," Gordon said. "That, with the fact that we've
exercised great patience and the good sense to stay out of trouble on
the racetrack on Sundays, is really what it's all about. The challenge
during the second half of the season will be to put ourselves further up
the starting grid on Fridays and Saturdays. Then, maybe we'll be in
position to win one of these things."

The Molson Indy's tight, twisty 1.7-mile temporary street circuit will
certainly be a formidable challenge for Team Gordon and its fellow CART
competitors, as it is every year. But it remains a favorite for Gordon,
who's recorded top-10 finishes in five of his six visits there, and
qualified on the pole once.

"It's one of the neatest events of the year," he said. "Like at
Cleveland, the fans really get behind the race. And it's a really fun
track - a momentum track. Passing's a little tricky, so the key will be
to not have to fight your way up through the pack. I'm really looking
forward to it."

Practice and qualifying for the Molson Indy begins Friday (July 16) and
continues Saturday (July 17). Race time is 2 p.m. EDT on Sunday (July
18). It will be aired by ABC-TV on a one-hour tape-delayed basis
beginning at 3 p.m. EDT.
