NASCAR's Ricky Rudd Chooses Visteon Radiators
13 July 1999
DEARBORN, Mich., July 13 -- Consistency is the key to winning -- something veteran NASCAR driver Ricky Rudd knows first hand. That's why Rudd Performance Motorsports and Visteon Climate Control Systems, Ltd. have entered into a partnership making the Visteon radiator the official radiator for the NASCAR Winston Cup team, effective today. On Sunday, Visteon's high-performance racing radiators continued to produce results in Winston Cup as Jeff Burton became the fourth winner in the past 7 races to cross the finish line first with a Visteon radiator-equipped car. In all, six of the top seven and 25 of the top 36 racers were equipped with Visteon radiators in Sunday's Jiffy Lube 300 at the New Hampshire International Speedway. Rudd knows what it takes to win. He is perhaps the most consistent driver in NASCAR, winning at least one race per season over the last 16 consecutive years, the longest streak on the circuit. Rudd started in his 559th consecutive Winston Cup race Sunday at the Jiffy Lube 300. "Visteon's radiator core was impressive in our testing so we felt it was the radiator for us," Rudd said. "I need every advantage I can get in Winston Cup racing, which has become so competitive that every millisecond counts. The stronger and cooler my engine runs, the better chance I have to reach victory lane." Visteon will manufacture the cores and ship them to C&R Racing of Indianapolis, Ind. C&R designs and builds custom, high-performance radiators to fit the unique specifications of individual race cars for the majority of teams in three NASCAR series -- Winston Cup, Craftsman Truck and the Busch Series. "We're extremely pleased to be aligned with Ricky Rudd, one of NASCAR's most successful and respected racers," said Bill Klehm, president of Visteon Climate Control Systems, Ltd. "This partnership with Ricky and our entrance into Winston Cup builds upon Visteon's solid motorsports involvement and our desire to win, both for ourselves and our customers." According to C&R owner Chris Paulsen, Visteon radiators should be running in more than 80 percent of Winston Cup race cars by the end of this season. They will also start saturating the Busch Series and Craftsman Truck circuits as well. As partners, Rudd will race Visteon radiators for the rest of the 1999 season. According to Paulsen, numerous other drivers will join Rudd as racers make the transition to Visteon technology. "Visteon approached us with specially-designed race cores which tested very well," Paulsen said. "Numerous NASCAR racing teams are also learning what Visteon has to offer and are gradually making the change to Visteon. Ricky was the first to make a commitment to running with Visteon, but more racers are sure to follow." Rudd, driver of the number "10" Tide car, began his remarkable career in 1975. In 1977, he was named NASCAR's Rookie of the Year. Rudd joined forces with five different teams over the next 17 years and kept consistently winning races. The Chesapeake, Virginia native formed his own team in 1994. Visteon's racing involvement dates back 15 years. Currently, the company sponsors five other motorsports teams, plus the AmericaOne sailing team. Visteon motorsports teams include: Patrick Racing (CART), Stewart Grand Prix Formula One, Panoz Motor Sports (American LeMans Series) and John Force Racing (NHRA). With a global delivery system of more than 125 technical, manufacturing, sales and service facilities located in 21 countries, Visteon Automotive Systems is leveraging the talents of its 77,000 employees to deliver innovative, consumer-driven systems solutions to its customers.
