SPX Corporation Announces Sale of Acutex Division
    MUSKEGON, Mich., July 12 -- SPX Corporation today
announced it has signed a definitive agreement for the sale of its Acutex
division to Hilite Industries, Inc., of Cleveland, Ohio.  The transaction is
expected to be completed within 30 days, subject to Hart Scott Rodino review.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
    The Acutex division, with sales of approximately $45 million, manufactures
solenoid valves for use in automatic transmissions for motor vehicles.  It has
a single manufacturing facility located in Whitehall, Michigan.  Hilite
Industries, Inc. designs, manufactures and sells a diversified line of highly
engineered components and assemblies for the automotive industry.
    Commenting on the transaction, John B. Blystone, Chairman, President and
Chief Executive Officer of SPX Corporation said, "In the consolidating vehicle
components industry, this transaction offers Acutex an opportunity to prosper
as part of a larger components supplier.  SPX shareholders, the employees of
Acutex and their home communities will all benefit from this sale."
