Toyota Honors Partners at 1998 Logistics Excellence AwardsTORRANCE, Calif., July 12 -- Toyota Logistics Services (TLS), a division of Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. (TMS), announced the 1998 Logistics Excellence Awards, honoring its top-tier rail, truck, and import marine logistics partners for their excellent performance in service, quality, and customer service. Toyota presented the President's Logistics Awards, the highest honors for best overall performance, to Canadian Pacific Railway, Leaseway Auto Carriers, and Toyofuji Shipping at its third-annual awards presentation. "We know we can't sell our products if we can't deliver them where our customers want them, when they want them, as they want them," said TMS President and CEO Yoshio Ishizaka. "To be customer-driven in the area of logistics requires outstanding performance in three critical areas: on-time performance, quality, and customer service. All three are the essence of the President's Award in Logistics." Canadian Pacific Railway earned the Toyota President's Award for rail transportation for its second consecutive year, as well as the Logistics Excellence Award for highest rail on-time performance. Canadian Pacific recently expanded its partnership with Toyota, handling Solara shipments to the northwestern U.S. via direct routing from Cambridge to Vancouver. "Transit times have been consistently excellent," said Ishizaka. Leaseway Auto Carriers won the Toyota President's Award in the category of truck transportation. A repeat winner, Leaseway won the 1996 President's Award as well. With the highest overall score for best quality in truck transportation, Leaseway also received the Logistics Excellence Award in that area. Toyofuji Shipping took the President's Award in marine transportation for the first time, also earning a Logistics Excellence Award for best on-time performance among import marine carriers. Also honored with 1998 Logistics Excellence Awards, recognizing exceptional performance in the categories of on-time delivery, quality, and customer service, were logistics partners Active, Crowley, K-Line, Norfolk Southern, NYK, SeaLand, and Union Pacific.
