Borg-Warner Automotive Turbo Systems Achieves QS-9000 Certification at Asheville Facility
ASHEVILLE, N.C.--July 8, 1999--Borg-Warner Turbo Systems' Asheville facility has received its ISO-9001 and QS-9000 certifications. This manufacturing location produces turbochargers and vibration dampers."We are proud to meet or exceed the automotive industry requirements for manufacturing excellence," said Jim Koehler, Quality Systems Manager of Borg-Warner Automotive Turbo Systems Asheville facility. "The QS-9000 certification reinforces our ongoing commitment to quality."
QS-9000 represents a worldwide common supplier quality standard for the automotive industry, including major passenger car and heavy duty truck manufacturers. QS-9000 encompasses the ISO-9001 standards set forth in 1994 and includes additional requirements specific to the automotive industry.
The certification process involved an extensive audit of the company's overall operating systems by an independent auditing firm. Retention of the certification will require successful completion of semi-annual audits by the same auditor.
The Asheville plant joins other Borg-Warner Automotive Turbo Systems' facilities in Cadillac, Michigan and Gainesville, Georgia, which have QS-9000 certification. Other accolades received by the Asheville facility include John Deere Supplier of the Year in 1998 and recognition by Caterpillar, Ford, Navistar, General Dynamics, Mack and J.I. Case.
Borg-Warner Automotive Turbo Systems includes two former Schwitzer Group divisions, Schwitzer Engine Components and Kysor Cooling Systems. The Turbo Systems global business unit also includes the 3K-Warner turbocharger business in Europe.
