Dega Technology to Enhance PASSPORT Standards

Dega Technology to Enhance PASSPORT Standards; Parts Catalogue Developer is Newest Enterprise Alliance Member
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif., July 8 -- Dega Technology, Inc.
(OTC Bulletin Board: DEGA) announced today that it has gained membership in
the Enterprise Alliance, a growing group of partnered companies providing open
computer-based standards, named PASSPORT, to the automotive service industry.
PASSPORT standardizes links and communication between products and services
used in automotive service facilities.
With its membership, Dega will lead the effort to add an even greater
dimension to PASSPORT Standards. Dega will develop a Common Object Request
Broker Architecture (CORBA) gateway to the PASSPORT Standard. The result will
enable service providers using legacy platforms such as AS/400 and UNIX to
efficiently integrate with the shop floor and with each other. CORBA is a
standard middleware component, operating across heterogeneous operating
systems and networks including the Internet. This development will allow many
more service providers to implement shop networking and enterprise computing
strategies as they team to streamline the automotive supply chain.
Dega recently announced the beta version release of its second generation
Internet-based catalogue, DegaSource v2. DegaSource v1, released last year,
contains OEM part information. DegaSource v2 is a far more sophisticated
version, containing specialty and traditional aftermarket parts and
accessories. DegaSource combines parts identification and searching with
merchandising features like real-time pricing, up-to-date part numbers, parts
promotion, advertising, and other productivity-based capabilities.
The new application integrates with back-office systems to provide
real-time parts access from suppliers and offer business-to-business commerce
throughout the supply chain. Shop personnel will be able to locate the
appropriate part from preferred suppliers, get pricing and associated labor
information, and prepare a customer estimate in minutes. Access to a
knowledge base of technical service bulletins, repair and maintenance data and
other relevant information is included.
Duncan MacDonald, Dega's Chief Technical Engineer said "Our objective is
to create and deliver a system which will increase efficiency and make tasks
easier for automotive service professionals. We believe that this is a great
opportunity to team with the excellent member companies of the Enterprise
Alliance."
Speaking on behalf of the Enterprise Alliance, Ken Brookings of K2
Consulting Group noted, "Dega is at the forefront of applying leading-edge
technologies to useful business solutions. As the capabilities of PASSPORT
Standards continue to expand, we are delighted to welcome Dega as the newest
team member."
