8 July 1999
KOMOKA, ON - CASCAR is pleased to announce that Bumper to Bumper has returned as title sponsor of the CASCAR Castrol Super Series National event in Edmonton, AB. The event, which is scheduled for Aug. 13-15 at the Edmonton City Centre Airport, takes place on a road course configuration and is the third of four annual CASCAR National stock car races that feature upwards of 40 competitors from across Canada. Traditionally, the Edmonton race weekend has been one of the biggest and best attended events on the CASCAR schedule. "We're glad to be back as title sponsor of this prestigious race," said Bumper to Bumper's Don Bodinsky. "It's exciting to be part of CASCAR National event that is so well supported by the people of Edmonton and central Alberta. There are always great crowds and the quality of the cars and the level of competition makes for an event that Bumper to Bumper is extremely proud to be associated with. Our company is about quality car care and CASCAR reflects that image." "CASCAR is very happy to have Bumper to Bumper continue its status as the presenting sponsor of the Edmonton National event," said CASCAR's Director of Operations, Tony Novotny. "The number of western drivers participating in CASCAR has increased again this year and it's because of events like the Bumper to Bumper 250 km - and support of western-based companies like Bumper to Bumper - that we're seeing this growth." Bumper to Bumper is a major distributor of auto parts in Western Canada. Known as the 'auto parts professionals' the company sells brand name auto parts, accessories and professional products. They have been a longtime supporter of auto racing and have returned to present one of the biggest stock car events in Western Canada. According to Novotny, the Edmonton race is a major event on Edmonton's sporting calendar and the move from the August long weekend to the middle of the month should help make it even bigger. "The race is special because of its configuration on the airport's tarmac. It's spread over a wide area but the entire course is visible from the large grandstands on the front straight. And the pit stalls are located right in front of the stands so everyone can watch all the action in the pits," continued Novotny. "It's also an interactive venue because the fans also have access to the CASCAR pits where they can see the teams working on the cars." Last year, Ford Quality Care Taurus driver Kevin Dowler made history by being the first western series 'regular' to win a CASCAR National event when he won the Bumper to Bumper 300 km in front of his hometown crowd. Dowler will be back again to defend his championship in the race. In the three years that the race has been held, three different winners have emerged. In addition the CASCAR Castrol Super Series National event, the Northern Alberta Stock Car Club (NASCC) will also be on the weekend schedule, featuring various classes of sports car racing.
