Roadway Express Named Top Carrier by Inland
AKRON, Ohio--July 7, 1999--Inland Paperboard and Packaging of Indianapolis selected Roadway Express, Inc. as its "Carrier of the Year" for 1998 for the second time in the past five years, and named the motor carrier a "Quality Carrier" for the sixth consecutive year.Roadway serves all of the container manufacturer's seven paper mills, 40 box plants and 75 shipping locations nationwide. Every facility votes on the award and, for a carrier to be named a "Quality Carrier," the vote must be unanimous. Only seven of approximately 300 carriers that provide service to Inland were given this prestigious designation.
"This is a very difficult award to achieve, as there are nine different criteria that must be met," explained Donald Welch, Inland's general manager-logistics. "Not only did Roadway Express excel in all nine areas, they stood above the rest of our Quality Carriers, and thus, Roadway is our No. 1 carrier, or `Carrier of the Year.'
"Roadway is very conscientious with our business," continued Welch. "In my opinion, the quality of the people throughout the Company is exceptional. Everybody is customer-focused. And it shows."
Welch presented the "Carrier of the Year" plaque to Roadway Senior Corporate Account Executive Pat Mynsberge at an award dinner held in June.
The carrier scored 98% or better in all categories, including on-time delivery, accurate billing, good problem resolution and communications, the ability to react to emergencies, and the ability to prevent damage to products.
"Roadway and Inland have enjoyed a ten-year business relationship that has been mutually beneficial. This award validates all of the hard work put forth by the Roadway team to meet and exceed Inland's expectations of a transportation company," said John Bronneck, Roadway vice president of operations. "We are proud to accept this award on behalf of all of the employees of Roadway Express."
