BIKES: Ride For Kids Record in Asheville

Asheville, NC - 460 Riders raised over $121,000 in the Asheville, North Carolina Ride For Kids on Saturday, June 26 - an increase of 70% over 1998! Held in conjunction with the annual Honda Hoot, the event was covered by reporters from ABC-TV, Speedvision, the Asheville Citizen Times and Atlanta Journal- Constitution newspapers, and Red Rider, Motorcycle Consumer News, Rider and Backroads Magazines. Racing champion Jamie James, and Honda-sponsored drag racer Scott Grigalanus joined Duke University's Dr. Darell Bigner and Dr. Orren Beatty of the Ruth and Billy Graham Children's Health Center to thank participants for their outstanding fundraising effort. Rita Warren, mother of little brain tumor patient Hannah Warren, expressed her family's gratitude in a simple and moving speech. The Top Individual Fund Raisers were Mike and Deanna Culpepper from Ft. Worth, TX with $15,022. The Top Club/Chapter honors went to the Tennessee Honda Rider's Club from Murfreesboro, TN with $18,354 raised. And the Top Dealership was Sloan's Motorcycles and ATV from Murfreesboro with $18,789. Harold Vassar of Eden, NC was the excited winner of the new Honda motorcycle that was given away. The next Ride for Kids will be in Oakbrook, Illinois on July 18. The Ride for Kids is the official charity of the American Honda Motorcycle Division, and the funds raised at Ride for Kids events support the activities of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation of the United States. Ride for Kids has collected in excess of 7.1 million dollars since its inception in 1984.
