Emery Worldwide Launches Guaranteed Service From Japan; Company Expands 'Gold Priority Express' Offering to North America

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--July 6, 1999--Emery Worldwide has expanded its range of guaranteed international delivery services with the introduction of Gold Priority Express from Japan to North America.
This newest offering provides business-to-business shippers with two levels of guaranteed delivery.
The basic Gold Priority Express is a two-day service from Japan to the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada, explained Douglas Foster, Emery's vice president -- Sales and Marketing. The service uses scheduled commercial airlines into the United States and then links into Emery's dedicated North America network for priority handling and delivery.
In addition, Emery offers a same-calendar-day, Gold Priority Express "Plus" service to select markets. The Plus service is available for shipments picked up in the morning in Japan and destined for Los Angeles, Ontario and San Diego in Southern California. By taking advantage of the international dateline, the shipments are actually delivered in the afternoon or evening of the same calendar day.
Both Gold Priority Express products are door-to-door services that include customs clearance from Emery Customs Brokers, Emery's wholly owned brokerage unit. Shipments are handled from Japan to the United States using pre-booked, priority space on commercial airlines.
Once in Emery's North American system, the shipments receive priority boarding on the company's aircraft, special sorting and handling at the company's Dayton, Ohio hub and priority route scheduling for final delivery. There is a 100 percent money back guarantee if the shipments are not delivered on-time.
"We are very proud of the fact that Emery is the first forwarder offering guaranteed international deliveries as part of our standard product mix," said Foster. "This is a powerful demonstration of what Emery can accomplish by combining the strengths of its North American network and the scope and flexibility of its international operations."
This is Emery's second major expansion of its international Gold Priority Express product this year. In March, the company expanded the program in Europe to a total of 41 key distribution points. Foster explained that Emery is currently piloting a Gold Priority Express product from Singapore to North America and anticipates rolling out a similar service from other Asia/Pacific markets later this year.
Emery Worldwide is the leading non-Japan-based forwarder in that country and fields a worldwide sales staff dedicated to addressing the special transportation needs of companies doing business there. Emery's top imports from Japan into North America include automotive parts, computers, hi-tech equipment, video games and other entertainment-related items.
Emery Worldwide specializes in time-definite transportation services for business-to-business shippers of heavyweight cargo. A $2.2-billion company, Emery provides global air and ocean freight transportation, logistics management and customs brokerage services to manufacturing, industrial, retail and government customers. Based in Redwood City, Emery operates in 229 countries through a network of more than 560 service centers and agent locations around the world.
