NASCAR WCUP: Park not ready to celebrate this Fourth of July Holiday
4 July 1999
This July Fourth holiday isn't one Pennzoil Monte Carlo driver Steve Park will look back on with happily memories in the coming years. Park and his Dale Earnhardt teammates suffered through one of their most disappointing weekends in racing before leaving Saturday night's Pepsi 400 NASCAR Winston Cup race at Daytona International Speedway with a 42nd place finish. "This is obviously pretty frustrating," said Park who climbed from the car on lap 78 after his car suffered an engine problem. "We will keep working and get better. I guarantee that. The guys worked themselves to death this weekend changing everything they could on the car but we just never found it. On these superspeedways if you are just a little off you are going to the back. You are going to have weekends like this. We just have to bounce back and run well next weekend." Park's problems began in qualifying when the team was forced to take the final provisional starting spot. After beginning the race in last, Park moved up to about 30th place before the gremlins struck and ended his night. The Pennzoil team returns to action Sunday in New Hampshire.
