Strong Galant Sales Continue to Fuel Mitsubishi Growth; Montero Sport Sales Set Record Pace
CYPRESS, Calif., July 1 -- The completely redesigned 1999
Galant mid-size sedan continues to lead Mitsubishi Motors' sales growth in the
U.S. market, with a 37.8 percent year-to-date increase over 1998:

-- Galant sales are up 37.8 percent year-to-date
-- Mirage Coupe and Sedan sales are up 46 percent year-to-date
-- Montero Sport continues to set a record pace, with sales up 17.3
       percent year-to-date
-- Montero sales are up 23.5 percent year-to-date

"The new Galant mid-size sedan continues to meet our goals of increasing
sales, bringing us new customers and helping reinforce our brand awareness,"
said Pierre Gagnon, executive vice president and chief operating officer,
Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. (MMSA). "We expect to strongly
reinforce this momentum with the launch of the completely redesigned 2000
Eclipse sports coupe and revised Montero Sport SUV in the next few weeks."
Gagnon also expressed satisfaction with the orderly "sell-down" of '99
Eclipse inventory in anticipation of MMSA's retail partners focusing their
efforts on selling the new 2000 model.
Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. was established in 1982 by
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, Tokyo, and markets a full line of vehicles,
including coupes, convertibles, sedans and sport utility vehicles.
