Nissan Announces June Sales
- All-New Crew Cab and Xterra Pave Way for 49.3
Percent Increase in Truck Sales -
GARDENA, Calif., July 1 -- Boosted by strong first month
sales of its all-new Nissan Crew Cab truck, segment-busting Xterra SUV and
2000MY Maxima, the Nissan Division of Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA),
reported total sales of 52,695 units in the month of June, an increase of
3.5 percent versus a year ago and the seventh consecutive month of
year-over-year sales gains. Strong sales of the all-new Nissan Crew Cab and
Xterra SUV brought Nissan's total truck sales to 21,027 units in June, a
49.3 percent increase versus a year ago.
The Crew Cab sold 2,256 units, accounting for 30.4 percent of total
Frontier sales. Xterra had one of the top first full month of sales for a new
model launch in Nissan history, selling 5,470 units. Pathfinder totaled sales
of 4,344 units, up 1.3 percent over last year.
The Nissan Quest maintained its strong sales momentum with June sales
totaling 3,791 units, up 59.1 percent from year ago levels. Quest sales have
been strong since the launch of the all-new-four-door model last November --
the first six months of 1999 recorded a 97.7 percent increase over the
previous year.
Nissan's flagship sedan, the Maxima, continues to strengthen its position
as the top-selling import V-6 sedan. 2000 Maxima sales were strong despite
limited dealer availability in the early part of June. Overall, Maxima sold
11,062 units in June, showing a 14.9 percent increase versus the previous
year.
The Altima sedan, Nissan's volume sales leader, reported sales of
15,288 units in June, down 0.7 percent from a year ago. The Sentra totaled
sales of 5,181 units in June.
Nissan's North American-produced vehicle sales rose to 37,245,
representing 70.7 percent of all Nissan vehicles sold in the United States.
Combined sales for Nissan and Infiniti Divisions for June totaled
58,066 units, a 4.8 percent increase over the previous year. Sales of
Nissan's North American-produced vehicles accounted for 64.1 percent of June
sales.
