MOTORCYCLES: 1999 AMA Road Race Grand Championships set for September

PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- The nation's top amateur road racers are once again setting their sights on national bragging rights at the third annual American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) Road Race Grand Championships, Sept. 24-26 at New Hampshire International Speedway (NHIS) in Loudon, N.H. The 1999 AMA Road Race Grand Championships will feature many of the country's best amateur road racers in six expert-only AMA Premier Championship classes, which include Middleweight SuperSport, Heavyweight SuperSport, Heavyweight Superbike, Unlimited Superbike, Middleweight Grand Prix and Heavyweight Thunderbike. Another 16 National classes of competition will also be available, some open to both expert and amateur riders, and others only to amateurs and newcomers. Also, the best rider of the weekend, as determined by a panel of expert judges, will earn the AMA Road Race Horizon Award and be honored at the AMA Awards Banquet this fall. Competitors can also take advantage of the AMA Champions Incentive Package, which is being made available to three riders nominated by each regional road-racing organization. The package is replete with benefits, from free entry fees and a travel stipend to defray the cost of attending, to discounted entry fees for the Penguin Road Racing Advanced Rider school and free track time and garage space. Interested participants should contact their racing organization for more information. The pre-entry deadline is Sept. 1, and all pre-entered riders will be gridded first, based on a random drawing. Licenses from all recognized national and regional road-racing organizations will be honored. AMA membership is required, but no special event licenses are necessary. Entries are $50 per sprint class and $80 per solo endurance class.
