New Press On Line at Alcoa's Morris Extrusion Plant

    MORRIS, Ill.--July 1, 1999--A new 7300-ton soft-alloy aluminum extrusion press recently went into production at Alcoa's Morris (Ill.) Operation, expanding capabilities to serve the truck trailer and rail car markets, according to Director of Market Planning & Development John Weaver.
    "The start up of the new Ube press is the latest addition of several new operational capabilities within Alcoa's Engineered Products business unit which includes nine operating locations," Weaver said. "This new press and associated equipment provides us with much needed capability to meet the requirements of our broad customer base. The press project includes the purchase and installation of various fabrication equipment for precision cutting, punching and texturing." In all, Alcoa invested over $27 million to upgrade the Morris facility.
    Morris Operation is part of Alcoa Engineered Products (AEP), a business unit of Alcoa. Other AEP locations include: Catawba (N.C.); Cressona (Pa.); Elizabethton (Tenn.); Spanish Fork (Utah); Massena (N.Y.); Lafayette (Ind.); Chandler (Ariz.); and Baltimore (Md). Sales offices are located in Cressona, Pa., West Chicago, Ill. and Lafayette, Ind.
