Subaru Announces June Sales Figures; Best June Sales Month Since 1987
    CHERRY HILL, N.J., July 1 -- Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA)
today announced its June sales figures -- its best reported sales month so far
this year.  Subaru recorded a sales total of 13,923 units for the month, up
11 percent over the same period last year (12,573 units).  Year-to-date totals
of 72,245 units are up 10 percent over 1998 year-to-date totals of 65,756
units.  June 1999 marks the company's best June sales month since 1987 and
best retail sales month in 11 years.
    The Legacy model line led sales with 7,329 units posted.  The Outback
accounted for 5,094 units.  Forester posted sales of 4,727 units, an increase
of 37 percent over the same month last year.
    Subaru of America, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fuji Heavy
Industries Ltd. of Japan.  Headquartered near Philadelphia, the company
markets and distributes Subaru vehicles, parts and accessories through a
network of nearly 600 franchised dealers across the United States.  All Legacy
