UTI Enters a New Educational Alliance with Ford Motor Co.; UTI to Be the First Provider of Fact Program
PHOENIX, June 30 -- Universal Technical Institute (UTI), a
national private career college, has found an innovative way to provide highly
trained entry-level service technicians for Ford and Lincoln Mercury
dealerships. UTI is providing Ford Motor Company with training for the Ford
Accelerated Credentialed Training (FACT) program.
Each year, Ford and Lincoln Mercury dealerships need approximately
2,000 Ford credentialed technicians. As a result, UTI and Ford Motor Co.
developed the FACT program to provide Ford and Lincoln Mercury dealers with a
greater number of entry-level technicians knowledgeable in Ford service
technologies and methods.
FACT is an intensive, 54-week (1620-hour) automotive technician program.
Curriculum will include specific hands-on training with Ford and Lincoln
Mercury vehicles and components. FACT students will receive training in
engine control systems, brakes, steering and suspension systems, automatic and
manual transmissions, fuel systems and emission control systems.
"Our national presence, quality reputation and ability to recruit and
train thousands of automotive students each year is an incredible opportunity
from which to launch the FACT program," says Rick Jazwin, director of
educational services, UTI.
Demand among Ford and Lincoln Mercury dealers for Ford credentialed
technicians is strong. In order to attract and retain FACT graduates,
dealerships are encouraged to join the Tuition Reimbursement Incentive
Partnership (TRIP) program.
As TRIP participants, dealers agree to make monthly payments towards FACT
graduates tuition expenses, thereby sharing in the cost of their training.
This innovative program has been successful in retaining valuable UTI
graduates.
"There is an overwhelming need for highly qualified technicians in the
automotive industry," says Bob Hartman, president of UTI, Inc. "The FACT
program exemplifies a joint commitment from education and industry to fill
that need."
FACT enrollment will begin in fall 1999 at the UTI campus in Phoenix. The
program will be offered at additional UTI campuses as early as June 2000.
UTI was founded in 1965 in Phoenix, Arizona, and is recognized as one of
the top technical education institutions in the country. UTI has graduated
more than 60,000 students and offers accelerated career-specific training in
automotive, diesel, computer-aided drafting, air conditioning/
refrigeration/heating, motorcycle, marine and personal watercraft. UTI
campuses are located in Phoenix, Ariz.; Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; Glendale
Heights, Ill. and Houston, Texas.
